Microchanneling is a non-invasive CIT (Collagen Production Therapy) treatment with little to no pain with minimal post treatment discomfort. Although the treatment is non-invasive it does require some preparation and things to consider.

So you’ve scheduled your first appointment!! Here is the pre-treatment information you need to know:

  1. If you have frequent episodes of cold sores, taking acyclovir or valcyclovir starting one day prior to your microchanneling will reduce the likelihood of a recurrence due to your treatment.
  2. Discontinue retinol (2% or higher) or tretinoin at least 3 days prior to treatment.
  3. If your liver, kidneys and immune system are healthy, taking an NSAID such as Ibuprofen before treatment may reduce your discomfort.
  4. If possible, please arrive at the office without makeup on, and with a clean face.
  5. If you are being treated for hair loss, please arrive at the office with the shortest haircut possible. Please do not applysprays or gels to your hair prior to your treatment.

Your practitioner will have you fill out a detailed health questionnaire prior to your appointment and will flag any potential contraindications prior to your treatment. Please advise them if you have any concerns or additional questions at that time.

There will be some minimal side effects post-treatment, please see this article for more details. It’s important to be educated on the aftercare and have an understanding that this is not your typical ‘facial’ and that patience is part of the  process in order to achieve your results as your skin needs some time to heal and regenerate.

Another common side effect is addiction. Once you see the change in your skin you’re going to want more and more!! Get ready for your skin to transform!!

Just Skinn Highlighted Product: Niacinamide

I first came across the ingredient Niacinamide (aka Vitamin B3) while researching acne as it’s acne fighting properties are impressive due to its ability to regulate and stabilize oil production combined with how it promotes the production of ceramides and elastin which strengthens the skin’s natural barrier.

B3 Powder

This stable Vitamin (B3) offers a wide range of well documented benefits for the skin such as brightening, anti-aging, antioxidant and acne fighting properties. It is a water soluble vitamin that our bodies do not naturally create so we are reliant on food or topical sources.

This powerful ingredient works with your skin’s natural chemistry to improve the overall texture, preventing UV damage, reducing inflammation, minimizing the appearance of pores and regulating oil production. It also reduces water loss from the skin by retaining moisture, increases the production of keratin, treats dark spots, minimizes fine line and wrinkles and protects against environmental damage from pollution, sunlight and toxins.

Niacinamide Serum

There are many products that include this amazing ingredient on the market. Some of my personal favorites are:

The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% $5.90 CA

Paula’s Choice Niacinamide 10% – $55 USD

Paula’s Choice Niacinamide 20% – $60 USD

Glow Recipe Niacinamide Dew Drops $45 CAD

The Inkey List Niacinamide 8.99 CAD

Collagen Induction Therapy

How it works and why it’s all the rage!

CIT Post

Collagen Induction Therapy ( or CIT ) is a minimally invasive non-surgical cosmetic procedure using small sterile needles to create controlled micro-injuries to the skin without causing damage. Collagen is the protein that is responsible for our body’s skin strength and elasticity. Unfortunately as we age our bodies produce less and less of this protein each year. By creating micro-injuries to the skin it stimulates our body’s natural healing response which signals it to create new collagen and elastin resulting in smoother skin with a more even tone and younger appearance.

CIT Process

The treatment can be done with different needle lengths, the deeper needles penetrate the skin at greater depths allowing for better therapeutic product delivery deeper into the dermis. This is ideal for those with more severe scarring, stretch marks or deep wrinkles.

CIT takes some patience, you cannot expect overnight results with this treatment as the body needs time to go through the process of healing creating new collagen. But we certainly didn’t age overnight so it’s unrealistic to think we will anti-age at this rate!

CIT Results

The benefits in comparison to injection treatments such as fillers or Botox is that this treatment corrects more than lines and wrinkles. The results will yield a more even skin tone, smooth texture, decrease in fine lines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation and enlarged pores. The results are obtained without the use of toxins and are long lasting in comparison to injectables.

At Just Skinn we have a variety of CIT treatments to choose from. We use the gold standard in skincare products and devices and love seeing the transformation in our client’s skin. Check out what we have to offer or reach out to chat about how CIT can help you reach your skin goals.
